My child has special needs. How would surfing be beneficial?
Surfing provides excellent sensory stimulation for children with special needs. We work on Gross Motor Skills, and Motor Planning (concentrating on both upper and lower extremities), including balance. Surfing also provides cardiovascular conditioning, and the opportunity to increase muscle tone. We also work on cognitive stimulation such as focusing and task completion. Surfing also provides opportunities for social interaction; therefore, promoting speech and language development. It is also a wonderful way to increase self-esteem, self-efficacy, and to boost confidence levels.

My child loves the water, but is not a strong swimmer. Is it still safe for my child to learn how to surf?
We have life vests that we can provide for your child. Our Surf Instructors have extensive experience in water safety and assessing ocean conditions, and they are all CPR/First-Aid Certified. We are camped near beach lifeguard stations/towers, and we usually surf fairly close to shore in waist-high to chest-high waters. We also offer tandem surfing, so that the child/adolescent is actually surfing on the board with an instructor. We would HIGHLY recommend enrolling in one of our 1 to 1 ratio programs.
